Park Hill has been a visible landmark on the Sheffield skyline for over 60 years. It is considered of international importance due to being the first built example of external access decks (known as Streets in the Sky) and was awarded Grade II* listing in 1998. There followed a regeneration scheme, the first phase being shortlisted for the Stirling prize for architecture in 2013, which continues today. It is also culturally prominent, having featured in film, tv, music, artworks and on stage.

Park Hill Residents’ Association invite you on this 90 minute, resident-led tour to walk along the Streets in the Sky, exploring the 3 stages of its redevelopment and seeing how they differ. You will learn about the history of Park Hill, its celebrated (and lesser known) architectural details and gain an insight into life here today. Outside the building, you will enjoy our courtyard gardens in bloom and find out about the sculpture, mosaics and street art around the estate. And there will be plenty of opportunities to take in the expansive views so remember to bring your camera as well as your head for heights!
Note that this tour is mixture of undercover and outdoors so please be prepared for all weather conditions.
What is included
- a ride in the scenic lift to the top floor
- rare access along the Streets in the Sky through all 3 developed phases
- visit to a residential and student flat interior
- the vibrant communal spaces of Béton House student residence
- residents private garden
What is not included
The tours will not include the roof, however you will still experience the sweeping views from the top floor. We are also unable to access the undeveloped part of the site, but there will be the chance to view parts of it from the tour route.

Location
Meet outside the Park Hill Sales Office at the bottom of South Street and show your ticket to the guide.
https://w3w.co/large.stages.circle
This what3words address refers to a 3 metre square location. Tap the link or enter the 3 words into the free what3words app to find it.
We would kindly ask that you arrive on foot, by bicycle or via public transport (for which we are very well connected). Although there is car parking on site (accessed from Duke Street), it is limited and shared with residents, therefore unless required due to mobility issues, we encourage you not to add to the pressure on spaces.
Accessibility
The tour is step free so suitable for wheelchair users and mobility scooters. Please contact us at tours@parkhill.estate if you have any accessibily requirements or questions. The tour covers a distance of approximately 1 km.
Refreshments
Why not enjoy some refreshments before or after your tour at South Street Kitchen, our popular on-site cafe. Check out their website to see the menu and opening times.
https://www.southstreetkitchen.org/
Or for something to eat or drink on the go, the tour concludes near Park Hill Provisions, our local convenience store.
