Photography Competition 2021

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Park Hill, we now invite submissions to the 2021 residents photography competition with the theme:

Park Hill in 2021
through the eyes of the people
who live and work here.

We are privileged to have wider access to our famous building than just the facade, and are on hand to experience the light and shadows from its geometric patterns at different times of the day and weather conditions.  This provides great opportunities to capture unique images which are not easily available to others. It is also an interesting point in time to document the estate, which continues to be in a period of change, with completed, ongoing and still to begin renovations.

A selection of entries will be included in a limited edition photobook, as a permanent record of the estate in its 60th year and of the talents of its residents. Only 60 copies will be published and these will be available to purchase later in the year, with profits returned to the Park Hill Residents’ Association.  A copy will also be presented to Sheffield City library so will form a publicly held record that people can look back on in another 60 years.

We are also excited to confirm that we will be holding an exhibition at Weston Park Museum later this year, in which a selection of entries will be displayed.

The competition is open to anyone currently living or working at Park Hill.  Whether you are a long term resident, just moved in, staying at Béton House for the academic year or work at any of the businesses on site, you are all eligible to enter.

You may submit up to 3 photographs.

Photo files should be uploaded here

Each file should be named with the following information in the order shown and separated by spaces:

[Your name] [Your address - number and street- or workplace] [Photo Title].jpg

For example:

Ann Smith 99 Gilbert Love Park Hill.jpg

You must then email the following details to

  • your name
  • your address
  • names of your image files

Entries must be submitted no later than 11:59 on Saturday 10th July 2021

Please see the full rules, terms and conditions below.

We are delighted to announce the following panel of judges who will choose a winner and two runners-up.  Note you will only be eligible for one prize, however more than one of you photos may be included in the photobook and exhibition.

As well as serving as the current Chair of the Park Hill Residents’ Association, Ernest is also an innovative, award-winning digital artist.  Exhibiting around the world, for five decades, his works can be found in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Mandy Payne

A prize winner of the prestigious John Moores Painting Prize in 2014, Mandy has regularly been accepted to exhibit at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and has participated in group and solo exhibitions, locally, nationally and abroad.

Some of her best known works are the series of paintings of Park Hill she made over several years  during the early phase of redevelopment.
